FCT ACReSAL Project Gets World Bank Guidance on FLID Implementation
The Federal Capital Territory ACReSAL Project Implementation Unit (PIU) received a high-level strategic guidance from the World Bank following a working visit by Engr. Chinedu Umolu, World Bank ACReSAL Project Co-Task Team Leader and Senior Water Resources Management Specialist.
The visit which started with a meeting at the FCT ACReSAL Project office, focused on two critical priorities: scaling up the Farmer-Led Irrigation Development (FLID) initiative and improving data accuracy through efficient geotagging methods.
Engr. Umolu was received by the FCT ACReSAL Project Coordinator, Mrs. Caroline Opara, alongside key members of the PIU.
During the interactive session, the Co-TTL assessed technical progress on the deployment of FLID tube-wells across farming communities in the FCT. He provided data-driven guidance and charged the PIU to transition from basic output tracking to a holistic, impact-measurement framework for capturing and communicating accurate results.
"Generating accurate data on the total hectarage covered by ACReSAL interventions is non-negotiable for transparent, results-based reporting," Engr. Umolu emphasized.
He further challenged the FCT team to leverage its strategic location and institutional capacity to set standards for FLID implementation.
"If the FCT ACReSAL PIU gets the FLID model right, you will not just be executing a project, you will become the center of excellence. The FCT will possess the blueprint to train and guide other State Project Management Units SPMU's," he said.
The visit also provided an opportunity for the PIU to address operational bottlenecks and resolve ambiguities around data management and efficient project delivery.
In her remarks, Mrs. Opara thanked the Co-TTL for sharing global best practices and reaffirmed the commitment of the FCT PIU to perfecting the FLID model.
